Obituary for John A. Giannini

John A. Giannini, 97, of Ambler, died on December 28, 2018 at his daughter’s home in Coopersburg. He was the beloved husband of 65 years of the late Josephine (Amendolia) Giannini. He was born in Philadelphia, PA on January 1, 1921 to the late Vincenzo and Carmela (Cifelli) Giannini. John was a graduate of South Philadelphia High School. He worked at the Philadelphia Naval Shipyard as a Draftsman and Engineer building the Iowa class battleships. He entered the US Navy and served our country during WWII with the rank of Seaman 1st class serving on the USS Missouri in Tokyo Bay when the Instrument of Surrender was signed, formally ending WWII. He returned to the Shipyard following his service where he worked until his retirement. John was able to fix anything, and was always willing to help others. He was at times mischievous and was a lovable prankster. He was great at dancing, enjoyed golf, and spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren. He enjoyed filming his children’s childhood moments, something that is cherished today. However, the greatest joy of his life was his 65 years of marriage to his wife, Josephine. Theirs was a one in a million union that quietly inspired everyone who met them. John is survived by two daughters Kathleen Price and David of Bryn Mawr, Joan Giannini and David Pollock of Coopersburg, a daughter-in-law Ilene Zeff of Ambler, 3 grandchildren Jonathan, Justin and Julie Giannini, and many nieces and nephews. He was pre-deceased by a son Vincent J. Giannini, and his siblings Joseph Giannini, Lucy Venuti and Mary Caponigro. Relatives and friends are invited to his Viewing on Thursday, January 3, 2019 from 9:00-10:30 a.m. at the Emil J. Ciavarelli Family Funeral Homes and Crematory, 951 E. Butler Pike, Ambler followed by a Funeral Mass at 11:00 a.m. at St. Alphonsus Church, 33 Conwell Dr., Maple Glen. Entombment in Hillside Cemetery.
