Obituary for Harry C. Caparo, Sr.

Harry Charles Caparo, Sr., 97, of Plymouth Meeting, passed away peacefully on Wednesday December 12, 2018, with his family beside him at Einstein Medical Center Montgomery, East Norriton, PA. Born August 5, 1921, in Norristown, Pennsylvania, he was the beloved son of the late Calegero & Mary (Tuturice) Caparo and stepson of the late Daniel Santomenno. He was the loving husband of the late Anna (DeGideo) Caparo.

As a young boy Harry played the violin and was a marble champion. Harry graduated Norristown High School Class of 1939. He served in the 28 Tank Company, Special Troops, 28th Division of the Pennsylvania National Guard. He was a Watchmaker, Jeweler and a Realtor®. He was a member of the Conshohocken Lions Club, and served as President for 3 years; he was a member of the Sts. Cosmas and Damiano Fraternal Organization as well as the Norristown Catholic War Veterans Post 1182.

Harry cherished and enjoyed family gatherings, spending time at his Atlantic City beach house and the beach, travels to Florida, Italy, Hawaii, Canada and the Caribbean and many places in the United States. In his day, he delighted in the music and dance of the Big Band Era, Frank Sinatra, Louis Prima and the genre of the times at spots like the Rainbow Room in NYC and the 500 Club in Atlantic City. Harry enjoyed reminiscing and spending time with his fellow Sciacchitani friends. He did crossword puzzles every day and had a passion for Italian cooking. A “good meal” was always on the top of his list.

Harry will be remembered as a loving and devoted father, grandfather, great grandfather, brother, uncle and friend. Harry is survived by his children, Charles Caparo (Diane), Mary Ann Coupe (David), and daughter-in-law Kathleen (Harry). He was preceded in death by his son Harry, Jr. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Harry Daniel (Tina), Lisa (Gaetano), Amy (Peter), Damon (Elizabeth), Chad; and great grandchildren, Gaetano, Taylor, Samantha, Nikolette, and Sophia. Surviving in addition to his children and grandchildren and great grandchildren are his sister Angela Caracausa and sister-in-law Lucy Caparo (Joseph). He was preceded in death by his brothers Joseph, Frank and sister Lillian Piacitelli and his loving friend Ann Monaco.

Relatives and friends are invited to celebrate Harry’s life with a Viewing at Epiphany of Our Lord Church, 3050 Walton Road, Plymouth Meeting, PA 19462, on Wednesday, December 19, 2018, from 9:30-11:15 a.m., with his Funeral Mass to follow at 11:30 a.m. Interment will be in St. Matthew Cemetery, Butler Pike and North Lane, Conshohocken, PA.
