Obituary for Ian J. Stancato

Ian J. Stancato, 32, of Ambler, PA died suddenly on July 19, 2017. He was born in Lansdale, PA on April 18, 1985 to J. Tristan and Robin M. (Jackson) Stancato. He was a graduate from Upper Dublin High School Class of 03’ and Temple University earning a BS in Economics degree. His college senior year included a summer semester abroad in Rome where he enjoyed traveling with friends throughout southern Italy, including the Amalfi coast, and Madrid, Spain and cherished memories of the trip with plans to return. As an avid soccer fan, he was sure to catch any game he could on TV screens set up in the small Italian piazzas where the locals watched, sharing comradery, and cheering for the home teams. Ian also completed significant graduate course work at Temple University towards a PhD in Healthcare Economics. Ian dearly loved his friends and it is impressive to see the size of his extensive friendship network and how he was able to bring smiles to so many faces. Growing up in Towamencin Township, he played baseball and basketball for North Penn School District and then moved to Upper Dublin playing Varsity Basketball building an even broader network of friendships. Professionally, Ian assisted in the launch of a small business with his brothers, Civil, LLC in Philadelphia, PA, where he helped develop a SaaS tool enabling small businesses to communicate via text message with consumers. He eventually served as SVP of Sales. The challenge of creating something new was exciting to him and he enthusiastically brought years of valuable sales experience to the team. Ian loved the outdoors and enjoyed logging miles of hiking on the Wissahickon and Schuylkill River trails, always looking for new paths to explore. He also loved walking Philadelphia neighborhoods and being part of the city. Ian had a knack for recalling facts whether history, sports, movies, etc and could beat the best at trivia. He was trying to talk his brothers into trying out for jeopardy with him! Ian was an avid Philadelphia sports fan and loved attending live events. He put his interest in sports together with his superb writing skills working as a reporter for Bleacher Report and the Philly Phour sports blog. Ian also enjoyed playing the guitar and listening to a very wide range of music, and especially enjoyed interpreting a songwriter’s thoughts behind their lyrics and poetry. He was a long-time Pearl Jam fan and loved attending concerts with his friends and brothers. Along with his parents J. Tristan and Robin, he is survived by his brothers Brendan and Austin Stancato and his paternal grandmother Doris Brown of Quakertown. He was pre-deceased by his paternal grandfather Joseph Stancato and maternal grandparents E. Robert Jackson and Mary Zeigler Allebach. He also leaves numerous aunts, uncles and cousins who dearly loved him. His dog Roxy and niece puppy Pepper were very dear to him. Relatives and friends are invited to his Memorial Service on Friday, August 11, 2017 at 2:00PM at (Belmont Grove in Fairmount Park located on Belmont Mansion Drive next to the Underground Railroad Museum by Belmont Plateau).
