Obituary for Carmen G. Finore, Sr.

CARMEN GEORGE FINORE, Sr., passed on peacefully to eternal life on August 30, 2017, days before his 96th Birthday. Carmen was a life-long resident of Ambler Borough, Upper Dublin Township, and the past five years, ACTS communities of Gwynedd and Normandy Estates. He summered in Stone Harbor, NJ, since the 1970s. For 58 years he was married to his beloved Anna Benedetta Signore Finore who predeceased him in 1999.

As a member of St. Anthony’s Catholic Church, Carmen served as usher and member of their Men’s “Grandfather” Club. Until the 1970’s he served the community as a Volunteer Fireman.

Born on September 27, 1921, Carmen’s credo included God, Family, Country, and helping anyone in need. His life spanned 17 Presidencies, and he served the country under General George Patton’s 3rd Army. As a member of the 16th Armored Division and 633rd Tank Destroyer Battalion, Carmen was one of the few remaining in the Generation called “The Greatest.” Never forgetting nor tiring of talking about World War II history, his stories ranged from driving and maintaining the M18 Hellcat Tank Destroyer, to his unit’s takeover of a German estate with an excellent wine cellar. His stories about freezing temperatures, friendship, and perils of war made him thankful for his entire life.

Shortly after the war, Carmen opened Finore Motors and Ambler Auto and Electrical. He believed that with a strong work ethic, all things were possible. His business remained in Ambler for over 45 years.

Along with Anna, Carmen is predeceased by parents John and Nicolette and brother James. He is survived by brother John.
Carmen is also survived by his five children and spouses: Marie (Tom, dec.) McGibony, Nickie (Henry) Miller, Alice (James) Brogan, Diane (Jerry) Hurd, and Carmen (Judith) Finore, Jr. Carmen is known as Pop-Pop to nine Grandchildren and their seven spouses, and 3-Pops to 16 Great Grandchildren.
